NETTLETON – A four-vehicle accident on Highway 45 sent an Aberdeen woman to the hospital and snarled the Tuesday morning commute near Nettleton.
At 8:35 a.m., a red 2000 Ford Taurus driven by 48-year-old Shelia Jernigan of Nettleton pulled out into the left lane of Highway 45 North from the Camargo Road crossover, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Criss Turnipseed
The driver of a 2005 white Mercury Grand Marquis, 77-year-old Harold Conner of Aberdeen, was in the process of passing a 2006 white Freightliner tanker truck driven by 39-year-old Sonya Inman of Booneville before the moved back into the right-hand lane to avoid hitting the Taurus, which was driving slow upon entering the highway.
According to Turnipseed, Conner clipped the back of the Taurus and the front of the 18-wheeler.
A fourth vehicle, a blue 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by Angela Garrett, 43, of Amory, swerved to avoid missing the other vehicles but clipped a bridge railing.
The passenger of the Grand Marquis, 71-year-old Martha Conner of Aberdeen, was transferred to North Mississippi Medical Center following the accident.
There was no fuel leaked from the tanker truck, and the northbound lanes of Highway 45 had to be shut down at one point. Traffic is clear now.
MHP investigated the accident.
