TUPELO – Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask could be headed home from the hospital this afternoon.
“He’s doing real well,” Chief Deputy Randy Roberts said Monday afternoon. “He’s restless and ready to go home, but we are waiting for the doctor to say he can leave.”
Mask felt chest pains around 7 a.m. Saturday and drove himself to the hospital in Pontotoc. Later that morning, he underwent surgery at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, and two stents were put in his heart.
He was in the Critical Care Unit at the hospital following surgery but moved to a private room by Monday.
Mask is in his third term as Pontotoc County Sheriff. He was first elected in 1999 and was reelected in 2003. After losing a close race in 2007 to Neal Davis, Mask was re-elected sheriff in 2011, defeating Davis.
Mask also served three terms as constable in Pontotoc before becoming sheriff.
