TUPELO – A pair of Lee County men are facing grand larceny charges for the theft of around $30,000 worth of copper.
The coaxial cable and other copper items were stolen from a communications tower site on Auburn Road. The tower was destroyed by the April 28 tornado. Some of the specialized dual copper-lined communications cable was sold to a local metal recycling business.
The investigation led to the arrest of Kenneth E. Gilmore, 46, of Tupelo and Philip D. Chaney, 42, of Plantersville. Their bonds were set at $30,000 each.
The investigation continues and more arrests are possible.
