CORINTH – An Alcorn County man could be facing the death penalty following the Saturday shooting deaths of two people in the Fields community.

Michael Lee Meeks, 24, of Corinth was charged with two counts of capital murder Tuesday afternoon during his initial appearance. The judge ordered Meeks held without bond.

Under Mississippi law, capital murder carries a penalty of either life in prison without parole or death.

A concerned citizens called the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office Saturday afternoon when they could not reach Jeanette Gray at her County Road 171 residence.

According to Acorn County Sheriff’s Investigator Reggie Anderson, officers found the bodies of Gray, 56, and Archie Wayne Williams, 50, inside the house. “Both appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds,” said Anderson.

Law enforcement began looking for Meeks, who reportedly stayed with Gray on occasion after her husband died. He was arrested across the state line in Alabama with the assistance of the Littleville and the Cherokee police departments.
