TUPELO – Over the past week, the Tupelo Police Department has seen a rash of car burglaries on the west side of town.

“We had seven burglaries in the last 24 hours,” Tupelo detective Lt. Jerry Davis said Wednesday afternoon.

The bulk of the incidents have occurred at night in subdivisions on both sides of North and South Thomas Street. The thieves have been going through unlocked cars and breaking windows to steal items left in plain sight.

“We even had a vehicle stolen because someone left the keys in the car,” said Davis. “But that is also how we got a description of the suspect – a black male last seen wearing camouflage pants.”

Officials remind people to always lock their cars and to never leave purses or other valuables out in the open.

Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to call the Tupelo Police Department at 841-6491 or Crime Stoppers of North Mississippi at 1-800-773-TIPS (8477).
