A memorial service honoring Tupelo Police Sgt. Gale Stauffer will be held Dec. 23 at Fairpark.

Stauffer was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 23, 2013, when he was shot by a bank robber. Officer Joseph Maher also was shot but lived.

The ceremony is scheduled to start at 2:45 p.m. Speakers will include Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton, Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre and Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson.

At approximately 3:17 p.m., Aguirre will ask for one minute of silence.

Once the ceremony ends, a wreath will be taken from Fairpark to the TPD Central front office. There will be a reception at the Ice House on Spring Street, at which time a check will be presented for the Stauffer and Maher family funds.
