JACKSON – The Mississippi Supreme Court affirmed Thursday afternoon the 2013 murder conviction of Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Jones.

A Prentiss County jury ruled that Jones intentionally shot and killed her mother at the mother’s 439 Highway 4 East home on May 11, 2010. Circuit Judge Jim Seth Pounds sentenced her to life in prison.

During the trial, Jones, then 49, testified that her 66-year-old attacked her. As the women struggled for the .38-caliber pistol, it fired twice.

Jones argued that the Supreme Court should reverse the conviction because the lower court denied her motions for a directed verdict, because evidence of her prior drug use should have been excluded, and the verdit was against the evidence presented.

Jones will be able to apply for parole when she turns 65.
