IUKA – A Corinth man is facing multiple felony charges after assaulting a deputy Tuesday evening and then running into the woods near Tishomingo County High School.
Isiah Blake Leatherwood, 19, of 601 Cottonwood Drive, Corinth, is charged with simple assault on a police officer, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and carjacking. Officials expect to have a bond set Thursday.
Tishomingo County Sheriff John Daugherty said K9 handler Scott Dalton stopped a black Cadillac Tuesday evening at the intersection of eastbound US 72 and County Road 169, just across from the entrance to the high school. When Dalton discovered marijuana on the passenger Leatherwood, there was a struggle and the officer received minor injuries to his wrist and arm. He was treated and released from an Iuka medical center.
Leatherwood attempted to get into another vehicle that had slowed down when it approached the blue lights. When he could not get in the car, he ran north across all four lanes of traffic, losing his shoes in the process. He took off his shirt before entering the woods just west of the high school. Leatherwood was captured a few hours later near the school’s parking lot.
The driver of the vehicle, Linda Renee McAfee, 33, of 210 County Road 250, Corinth, was arrested and charged with driving without a license and an outstanding warrant from Corinth.
