A Corinth man accused of leading law enforcement on a pursuit that turned fatal was sentenced to 24 years in prison on a previous charge, an official said.

Taylor Talley was already on probation with a suspended sentence for a prior burglary of a dwelling charge when he allegedly fled from police, said Assistant District Attorney David Daniels. Talley led law enforcement on a high speed chase that covered two counties on Nov. 7.

After the incident, the district attorney’s office filed a petition to revoke Talley’s previously suspended sentence. Talley was sentenced to 24 years in prison Monday.

Samantha N. Cruz, 30, was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Talley, 24, of Corinth, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Law enforcement officials were attempting to serve a warrant on Talley when he fled the scene in western Alcorn County, according to Sheriff Ben Caldwell. The ensuing pursuit went into parts of Alcorn and Tippah counties.

After running over spike strips deployed by the Mississippi Highway Patrol in Tippah County, Talley’s vehicle left the roadway and collided into some trees. Cruz received fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene on County Road 500.

Talley allegedly attempted to flee the crash scene on foot but was apprehended by local law enforcement officers.
