Two male Walnut High School students were involved in a one-vehicle accident Sunday morning, and one is dead.
Parker Wallace, 16, a sophomore at Walnut High, was pronounced dead at the Med Hospital in Memphis, according to Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell.
Caldwell, who was not at the scene but quoting the accident report, said that authorities were dispatched at 1:07 am to Alcorn County road 611 where they found a white 2003 Ford STX pickup that looked to have lost control, spun out into the road and hit an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll several times. The driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
It is believed that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle was traveling east on Tippah County road 218 in Chalybeate when the accident occurred. Caldwell said speed seemed to be a factor.
Both victims were airlifted by AirEvac to the Med Hospital in Memphis. The passenger was released with minor injuries Sunday morning.
The Walnut Fire Department and First Responders, Tippah County Ambulance Service, Magnolia Ambulance Service, Union City Volunteer Fire Department, the Tippah County Sheriff’s Department and Alcorn County Sheriffs Department responded to the scene.
