TUPELO – Tupelo police were able to apprehend a man after a short foot chase Friday at the Mall at Barnes Crossing.
Tupelo patrol officers were notified that a suspected felony shoplifter was in JC Penney. The suspect, Jeremy Jerrell Hunter, 23, of Okolona, fled on foot from officers. The chase stretched from JCPenney to Walmart on North Gloster, where Hunter was captured without incident.
The initial investigation revealed that Hunter had three outstanding felony arrest warrants for shoplifting and nine outstanding misdemeanor warrants for shoplifting. All warrants were from the city of Tupelo. Hunter was also charged with felony shoplifting related to theft of items from JCPenney shortly before the foot chase began.
Approximately $2,700 in stolen merchandise was recovered at the time of Hunter’s arrest.
Hunter was out on bond from additional felony shoplifting charges.
