FULTON – A Texas man in a high-powered sports car led law enforcement on a chase through Itawamba and Lee counties before being stopped at the Prentiss County line.

A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a westbound 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat on Interstate 22 near the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway around 3:50 p.m. Monday for careless driving and speeding. The driver, James Allen Huff, 36, of Cypress, Texas, failed to stop and led troopers on a chase that covered two counties.

Huff continued west on I-22 before taking the Mooreville exit and heading north on state highway 371.

“Troopers quickly deployed spike sticks on I-22 and MS 371 to end the pursuit,” said MHP spokesman Master Sgt. Ray Hall, “however, the driver drove off the road to avoid them.”

The chase continued north through the town of Mantachie. Huff turned onto the Natchez Trace Parkway and only traveled a short distance before being stopped near the Prentiss-Itawamba county line.

Huff was charged with felony fleeing, resisting arrest and numerous misdemeanor traffic violations. Randall Tidwell, 39, of Sardis, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with failure to comply to the command of a law enforcement officer.

Both suspects remain in the Itawamba County Jail.
