Amory Police make separate meth arrests

AMORY – Two men were arrested in separate incidents, one in which a police officer was assaulted.

According to the Amory Police Department, officers observed an occupied vehicle at approximately 11:38 p.m. Saturday parked at a closed business on Highway 278 West. When officers talked to the individual outside of the vehicle, a weapon was noticed in the car.

When asked about the weapon, the individual jumped back into the vehicle, and a struggle took place.

Officers were able to gain control of the suspect by deploying a Taser and took him into custody.

James E West III, 26, of Aberdeen, is charged with possession of meth (enhanced), simple assault on a police officer and misdemeanor charges. He is being housed at Amory City Jail waiting on a bond to be set by a Monroe County Justice Court judge.

In a separate case, Amory police officers located a suspicious person on Monday at approximately 12:41 a.m. on 4th Street South walking in the road. When officers made contact with the subject, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He was taken into custody without incident.

Jason Adams, 37, of Hamilton, was charged with possession of meth and is being held for the Mississippi Department Of Corrections.

He is in Amory City Jail awaiting a bond to be set on the felony charge by a Monroe County Justice Court judge.
