TUPELO – The Coalition of Concerned Pastors and Leaders organized a “stand-in” Friday morning at Tupelo City Hall.
Officials hoped the peaceful protest would draw 500 people to stand in the lobby until 1 p.m. and bring more awareness to their plea.
The coalition was formed earlier this week to support the family of Antwun “Ronnie” Shumpert and to call for more answers surrounding his death. Shumpert, 37, ran from police during a routine traffic stop on June 18 and was shot and killed by police.
The city has said that Shumpert attacked the officer and a police dog. The family, through their lawyer, say the dog attacked the father of five and the officer shot the unarmed Shumpert four times.
