Identity of murder victim determined

CORINTH – The identity of a man whose body was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds has been determined, according to Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones.

The deceased has been identified as Jorge Olivera, 37. Olivera lived in Corinth, and his death will be ruled a homicide, Jones said.

The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office discovered a deceased male with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after midnight May 12 after a motorist reported seeing a possible body.

At about 12:15 a.m. a motorist contacted 911 in regards to seeing a possible body on the side of County Road 418 about one mile south of the intersection with County Road 419, Sheriff Ben Caldwell said. The location is south of the city of Corinth and east of Highway 45.

Sheriff’s deputies responded and discovered the body with multiple gunshot wounds.

The body was taken to Jackson for an autopsy.
