CORINTH – A Corinth High School senior is sitting in the Alcorn County Regional Correctional Facility after allegedly bringing a gun to school Thursday.
Zerek Hurd, 18, of Washington Street, was charged Friday morning with possession of a weapon by a student, a felony, and carrying a concealed weapon, a misdemeanor. He remains in jail under a $10,800 bond on the charges.
Corinth School Superintendent Lee Childress said school administrators learned that one student had threatened another student, making a reference to a handgun at school, Thursday morning. All Corinth Schools were locked down. The school was searched and no weapon was found.
Authorities said the suspect left school before police arrived. A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper stopped Heard in the Buchannan Street area. During a search, a .32-caliber handgun was found on Hurd.
The lockdown was lifted around 9 a.m.
