Monroe County deputies involved in a shooting case last October will not face court time, according to Sheriff Cecil Cantrell
“The MBI presented to the grand jury no true bill and said everything was handled appropriate and to the law,” Cantrell said. “The officers were in the line of duty, and the grand jury found no cause.”
No true bill means there is no probable cause to decide that a crime has been committed. For this reason, the grand jury decided not to formally charge any of the deputies involved in the Ricky Keeton shooting case in Smithville on Oct. 28 at a residence on Sizemore Road.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 60021 Sizemore Road after receiving a tip as the result of a drug arrest hours earlier. A deputy was reportedly shot and wounded by Keeton as deputies approached the back of the home, according to Cantrell in a previous interview following the incident.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation took the lead on the investigation.
