TUPELO – The truck driver found dead at a Belden truck stop was from more than 1,100 miles from home.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green identified the man as Geoffrey Williams, 63, of Stamford, Connecticut. Foul play is not suspected.

“It has been ruled he died of natural causes,” said Green.

Williams was discovered by a fellow truck driver around 9 a.m. Monday at the Love’s Travel Center at the intersection of McCullough Boulevard and Interstate 22.

Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre said the trucking company had not heard from Williams and pinged the truck’s transponder and located the truck in Tupelo. They contacted the police to do a welfare check.

Around the time police arrived, another truck driver found him in the cab of his truck, slumped over the steering wheel.
