A Becker man died Thursday morning as the result of a two-vehicle accident on Highway 278, according to Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley.

Clifton Luke Tubb, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene by Gurley. Tubb was driving east on Highway 278 on the Buttahatchie River bridge one mile east of Greenwood Springs Road when his white 1994 Honda Accord collided head on with a white 2000 Ford F-150 traveling west.

According to a press release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Tubb’s car drifted into the westbound lane and collided with the F-150.

The two passengers of the truck, Almon Daniel Gann, 67, and Dwayne Freeman, 71, both of Hamilton, Alabama were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Gann and Freeman were wearing their seatbelts.

The 911 call regarding the accident was made at 9:34 a.m., according to Gurley, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded at 9:42 a.m.

Gurley said the cause of death was multiple trauma, and Tubb was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the MHP.

As a result of the accident, traffic was delayed for approximately an hour.

Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
