IUKA – The investigation into a Saturday accident involving a child led to the arrest of an Iuka man Monday.
According to Tishomingo County Sheriff John D. Daugherty, on March 5, a 4-year-old girl was admitted to the North Mississippi Medical Center – Iuka with severe external injuries. The child was later transferred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis where she remains in intensive care.
Adults said the child had been involved in an accident, but medical personnel notified not only law enforcement but also the state Department of Human Services.
“This child appears to have been through a very bad situation,” said Daugherty.
n Monday, Tishomingo deputies arrested Lonnie. L. Lee, 35, of 50 County Road 196, Iuka, and charged him with felony child abuse. During his initial appearance in justice court, Judge Donnie Joe Sparks set bond at $250,000.
The sheriff said the case is still under investigation and more charges could be filed against Lee or possibly others.
