FULTON – An ongoing investigation has been launched into a false bomb threat called into a Fulton business Monday morning.
According to officials with the Fulton Police Department, a male caller used an unlisted number to call Anytime Fitness, located on Mueller Road, and claim a bomb had been placed inside the bathroom.
Police were alerted at 11:07 a.m. The business was quickly cleared, and Mueller Road was closed to traffic.
Fulton Police Chief Reggie Johnson said his department contacted the local bomb squad to be on standby while county law enforcement officials conducted a search of the building.
Capt. Jason Dickinson with the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department swept the building with the county’s bomb dog, Reese, who didn’t alert to any explosives. The building was declared clear after approximately 20 minutes.
The business and road reopened around noon.
Johnson said his department is currently investigating the false report.
“We’ll look into see if we can figure out [who called],” he said.
Management at Anytime Fitness told police they don’t know who made the call and claimed they’d had no issues with employees or patrons.
“They don’t have a clue [who it could be],” Johnson said. “They don’t have any disgruntled employees or people who have been kicked out of the gym.”
